Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (2024)

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the May 21, 2024, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category The Movies) for Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (Season 40, Game 182):

Louise & Lisa Burns, twins featured in this 1980 film, told a magazine, “We’re naturally spooky!”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Chris D’Amico, a verifications specialist from Lakewood, Ohio
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (1)
Sam Spar, a CPA originally from Burlington, Vermont
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (2)
Grant DeYoung, a grocery clerk from Prescott, Arizona (4-day total: $81,203)
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (3)

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Grant DeYoung comes into today’s game looking to do something that only 276 others before him since 1984 have been able to do: become a 5-time Jeopardy! champion. Of course, Sam Spar & Chris D’Amico, today’s challengers, are coming into this game hoping that they can prevent Grant from doing so. While Grant has been extremely strong on the buzzer in his run to date, he has also struggled with accuracy, giving a number of incorrect responses. (In fact, Grant was the first player since the 1980s to win while giving as many incorrect responses as he did in yesterday’s game.) It’ll be interesting to see if Grant can tone down the guessing.

Louisa & Lisa Burns played the famed Grady twins from the Stanley Kubrick 1980 film The Shining. While they were simply sisters in the original Stephen King work, Kubrick made them identical twin girls for the film.

Interestingly, while it is claimed that it was not deliberate, the staging of the two girls in The Shining bears a striking resemblance to Diane Arbus’s famed “Twins” photograph.

To me, this feels like a relatively straightforward piece of popular culture for most of the older members of the home audience; whether it will be straightforward for younger players is still to be seen.
